Stay interconnected.

The i stands for interconnected — self-hosted, end-to-end encrypted chat for the people you trust. Open source, running on your hardware, and nobody else's business.

🔒 End-to-end encrypted

Messages, files and even chat names are encrypted in the browser before they leave the device. The server stores ciphertext — nothing else to leak, scan or subpoena.

🏠 Yours, entirely

Runs on your own containerized infrastructure: Kubernetes (Helm chart) or plain docker compose. No big-tech cloud, no ads, no AI scanning.

🧹 Nothing is kept

Chat content is deleted after 7 days at most. Per chat you choose RAM (gone on restart) or SSD storage. Minimal metadata by design.

📱 Works everywhere

Any modern browser on iOS, Android, PC or Mac — installable as an app via “Add to Home Screen”. No app store required.

Why it exists

In 2026 the EU's "Chat Control" law made it possible to compel messaging providers to scan private communications — even genuinely end-to-end encrypted ones. Meanwhile the biggest "free" platforms feed everything they can into AI training. iTEQ is the other way: a chat server you run yourself, that couldn't read your messages even if its operator wanted to.

That matters to more people than homelabbers. Around two billion people live with religious or personal modesty practices under which private photos must never rest on a stranger's computer. And every parent should get to decide that their children are not AI training data. iTEQ exists to self-host the data that's precious to you — with privacy as the main objective, enforced by cryptography instead of a privacy policy.

It's deliberately small: accounts need the operator's personal approval, there's no search and no directory. Not a platform — a room in your own house.

Roadmap

v1.0.0
Stability polish, full documentation.
v0.4.0
Group chats.
v0.3.0 BETA
Now live. Optional read receipts — end-to-end encrypted like everything else, with an off-switch that works both ways.
v0.2.0
Push notifications while the app is closed, including the iOS home-screen app — carrying no message content, because the server can't read any.
v0.1.0
E2E-encrypted 1-on-1 chat · RAM or SSD storage per chat · 7-day retention · file transfer with image & video previews · reply, forward, copy, delete · installable PWA · approval-gated accounts · public release: Docker images, Helm chart & compose example.

Detailed changelogs live on GitHub.

Honesty first: iTEQ instances are private circles run on trust, not promises — every user gets a plain-language disclaimer about exactly what the operator technically could and couldn't do, before creating an account. That transparency is the product. This page is the project's home; it is not a service you can sign up for. Want in? Ask a friend who hosts one — or become the friend who hosts one.
